So long story short I got a Nexus 5x for Christmas and the Blackberry phone I've had since 2011 doesn't use a sim card. My dad got the phone online from Bestbuy. He went to get a nano sim to find find Verizon phone support that the phone "isn't supported". He went to the local Bestbuy to see if he needed to return the phone or if they could do something. If you already have a nano sim card everything works fine.
Turns out with unlocked phones on Verizon that your sim card has to be activated on a Verizon specific / certified phone for the sim to get activated. After then all you have to do is pop the nano sim card in and set up your phone like normally.
