Excision is headbang music. In the same sense, most people that go to death metal shows would agree that it doesn't sound "pleasant", but thats not why you go. You go to fuckin throw down. And it is 100% an aquired taste.
Excision is pretty heavy, but there's definitely melodic dubstep that sounds good. And he'll play that too, he'll switch it up a bit.
And to call it talentless is just ignorant, sorry. Producing edm in general requires a broad knowledge of not just the software, but an understanding of music theory as you'll be doing the drums, melodies, bass, everything. And then these artists know how to mix live also, which is an entirely different skill on its own.
Just like people could love the sound of a piano, a guitar, or a saxophone, synths come in many forms and are appealing to many people.
