I'm not sure if you'll remember me, but it was Tuesday, 22nd February, 2011. Our paths crossed that day and we both found ourselves shopping at New World on Stanmore Road. I was grabbing a garlic twist, you were grabbing milk for your mum. The earthquake hit, and I took the only shelter I could find in the stairway, you were at the self checkout and took shelter under a trolley. I saw you, and as the roof panels and air conditioning ducts fell around us, I thought about diving out to grab you, and I'm sorry I didn't. Your spot looked safer in hindsight anyway. After the shaking stopped, I was going to grab you and get you out of there, but you were ok and the old lady knocked over by the battery stand needed help more. While everyone scrambled to get out, a guy in what I think was a green jacket helped me with the old lady, someone else bought a wheelchair for her, and then a lady handed you to me and told me to get you out of there. We got out to the carpark and it was chaos, you were too upset to tell me where your mum was, I was worried she was still in the store, but she appeared moments later looking for you, I think you lived up the road and she had sent you down to get some milk or something. You went home and I got on my scooter to head home and see the damage.
If you or green jacket guy are out there, or if anyone else was at New World Stanmore that day, I'd love to hear your recollection of that day and whether you remember me, I had a white motorbike helmet in my hand. Shout also to the person who picked up my scooter in the carpark that day, hope you managed to get your car out of that munted carpark ok.
