It was around noon, and I was coming out of the station at the very most north-east exit. Saw a guy sitting on the steps. Not the steps going down from street level, but the next set that go down to where the turnstiles on. That is pretty normal, and I think many times when I use that station there's someone sitting on one side of those wide steps.
He had something white between his fingers and I have horrible eyesight, so I figured, ok, it's a cigarette. Whatever.
As I go up past him and get close enough to make out details, no, it's a needle, and he's...casually angling it and pulling up his sleeve to shoot up.
I nearly fell off the step in fear and then, of course, had the thought that this guy wants to shoot up and be left in peace, so there's no way he's going to, you know, stab me with the needle for funsies.
But still. This was middle of the day in a fairly busy subway station. Sure, it's a quieter corner of it, but damn, I did not expect to see that.
I have used that subway daily for 10 years and never seen someone try to shoot up there before.
