I think it’s time the remaining player base either rallies under the idea that this game needs actual structure and decent game design. I personally love this game and through that love is a passion to be a game I play for years. That said the design of this game is not satisfactory to anyone who prefers quality in their games.
You can love certain aspects of this game and certain aspects of this game are top tier (combat, the world, aesthetic, music, crafting/gathering, social engagement). But it’s muddied heavily by design decisions by a studio with little to none mmo design. Now 2.5 years approximately of post launch support, it’s becoming clear at least to me that the flaws of inexperience in the genre are showing. It’s almost designed as a single player game with multiplayer elements sprinkled on top. Which makes sense as most the team heads experience with games are single player story driven on rails games and a mixture of multiplayer games.
Just comparing the first two years of new world vs other mmos in their first two is night and day. Considering you’re competing in a market with wow if you’re not willingly to hold your game up to it personally, I don’t think you deserve to be in the genre. It’s a night and day comparison. The only thing wow had at the time that new world doesn’t was an already fleshed out story and world. But i do not think that excuses new worlds problems with post launch support. When majority of it, was spent fixing broken systems and poor design decisions of their previous devs. Most of the design heads for rise of angry earth are not even working on this game anymore and maybe that’s just natural ebb and flow. But that also doesn’t excuse the main stays that have been here since the start.
Burning crusade was wows first expansion. When you compare that 20 year old expansion with less technology and experience we have now days to rise of angry earth. How can you not ask what’s going on?
I think we deserve such an answer. What was a studio doing 20 years ago that you are failing to do now?
The last question; how is it you’re seemingly so ok with losing 95% of your players and never getting them back again? What other major mmo lost that amount and has ever regained them?
