Hey all - i received a trailer and boat from a friends neighbor for free. 13 foot aluminum hull boat and trailer. Both pre-date the year 2000. I was able to get the title and registration for the boat no problem. The trailer is turning into an issue for me and I need help. The last time it was registered was 2003 based off the plates I took off of it when received, the gentleman did give me a bill of sale. NJ-DMV wants the last registration card issued which at this point is almost 20 years ago. The guy who gave me the trailer doesnt have it. Went to a 2nd DMV office with the plate in hand, they took the plate searched it and the trailer comes up in the man who gave me its Dad, now deceased. So now my bill of sale is not accurate. Im also being ignored by this guy now that its turning into a hassle. Is there anyway to get this registered without this guy going to the DMV with me as his fathers executor, renewing the 20 year expired registration, then selling the trailer to himself, and then signing it off to me??? Holy shit the bureaucracy is insane.
