Best "Pet" build for Aielund Saga?

I am trying to figure out the best way to build a pet / commander type build for the Aielund Saga. The reason for this is mostly due to my needing to play classes and builds that require less action, and can have a lot of passive things going on. Anyone have suggestions for such a setup? I know Aielund Saga has at least 2 party members at the start, no idea what the max is, and having access to both an Animal Companion and Summon spells would prolly be best, but its been a very long time since I built 3rd Ed characters, and I want something strong that can play thru most of the Saga.
