I'm trying to settle once and for all whether I'm on the autism spectrum, have ADHD, or both. I saw a psychiatrist, who wrote me a referral for a neurologist to conduct neuropsychological/psychological testing. I called the office and left a message, trying to summarize the testing I needed. They called me back at the end of the day to tell me they don't offer any of the testing I listed. I told them I would review my referral to determine whether I explained my needs incorrectly.
The short answer is yes, I think I messed up. The referral specified neuropsychological/psychological testing for diagnostic clarification but to rule out autism and ADHD. Meaning I'm not asking to be tested for those things, but rather to rule out those things. I think. Learning disabilities are also to be ruled out. I can see the logic if I really screw up my brain, but for the sake of simplicity I sent the scheduling email address a summary of what I need and attached the referral (since I don't want to misspeak and get stonewalled again).
Now, with all that said: is any part of this process considered normal? Is this just what getting tested as an adult is like? How much of this is me being stupid versus my county being awful?
