Can anyone explain how SSO functions in a network firewall?
Post Body

I've recently toyed with the FSSO of a Fortigate unit but I haven't had the time to test it with a computer registered in a domain. I've understood the logic behind SSO with an AD, but how does the firewall recognize the computers? Does it query the AD and asks what user logged on X ip? How does this scale on more complex networks when the default gateway is not the firewall ?

I hope I haven't asked too many questions.

Anticipated thanks to anyone who tries to clear my lack of knowledge.
