Next-hop-self on edge routers

Post Body

Whenever I'm practicing a configuration in which an edge router is running eBGP and iBGP, I usually config next-hop-self on all the iBGP connections just so I have the muscle memory. However I created a topology topology to practice ways of avoiding letting the edge router become a transit AS. One of the ways is to use the no-export community value. I was wondering is there any reason to use next-hop-self in this scenario?

Also, is there any reason to use send-community on the iBGP neighbor statements since no external routes should traverse them anyway? Thanks
