Females can lay eggs, while males... get nothing.

As far as I can tell, there is no reason to play a male character. When you're a female, if you polymorph into something decent like a dragon or a gargoyle, you can #sit to create some powerful pets. Also, the dragon polymorph seems pretty much a sure thing once you get a hold of some dragon scale mail.
Is there any upside to playing male? IIRC only Knights and Samurai are gender restricted.
tl;dr Nethack is for girls
