Lately, every show I try to start seems to invest pretty heavily into having one of the main characters cheated on. To me, this feels almost like lazy writing. Cheating is something we can all relate to and is an easy way to make the audience feel for the main character. But for me, I just get mad. It really feels like there are better ways of getting me to feel emotions/relate to a character. Is this just a shortcut many show writers lean to? Or am I wrong, and it is just a popular way of storytelling. It also seems to be mostly women who are cheaters in these shows.
The past 3 shows I've watched were: Beef, the magicians, and mind hunter.
