Idea for possible mod: Connection with external storage

Its a great bummer that the internal storage capacity is so restricted and there is no way to add more. I was thinking if there is a way to write a driver that can utilize one of the controller ports as way to connect an external drive (of course with a converter cable ). Your thoughts?
