Northern California around 2000, the unit was on the European front and US/Japan. Nanking may have been mentioned in passing as a further justification for the US engaging in total war with Japan, but we never covered any of the Asian conflicts where the US was uninvolved.
I just assumed that nobody in the US knew about it. There are 3x as many Asian Americans as there are Jewish Americans, but I hear about the Jewish Holocaust constantly and almost never hear anyone reference Japan's worse atrocities in Asia.
