Pressure mounts on Macron after violent unrest over pensions

Proposed retirement age in France: 64
Average lifespan in France: 82
Current ratio of workers to pensioners: 1.7
Percentage of earnings replaced by pension: 74%
Percentage of GDP eaten by pensions: 14.5%
Currently, each worker is responsible for themselves and 44% of another person’s pre-retirement income, and that number is only growing. I hope Macron withstands this, because all of those numbers are getting worse and the next time simple reform may not be an option.

Declining birth rates, increasing life span, and the most insanely generous pension system in the world.
In France, pensions replace 74% of pre-retirement income, and the average pensioner receives benefits for 20 years. The current ratio of workers to pensioners is 1.7 and falling. Currently, each worker has to pay for themselves, of course, and 44% of a pensioner’s pre-retirement income.
