I've always thought that Rivals in general is quite an unfairly hated on game, It certainly wasn't the worst thing Ghost has done (That goes to a mix up between Payback and 2015) but after Most Wanted (I really do feel like this was the lowest point for the series, despite me enjoying the game, it just did not live up to it's namesake at all) I thought it really gave the series new life, the graphics still hold up well 7 and a half years later, the pursuits were as fun as could be and it was just let down by the bugs, glitches and always online. It probably had the most balanced and enjoyable handling model out of the 4 games Ghost produced because it seemed to strike this balance between realistic, sim like handling and arcade game handling, and I feel like it's something anyone could pick up and enjoy (a principle I feel like some sections of the player base either haven't realised is an important component in the success of any game, let alone a racing one, or are deliberately ignoring because of their own elitism) whereas NFS 2015's handling system wasn't so fun and Payback's handling system felt like a bad attempt at an OutRun game, and I'd like to see some form of it return in the next NFS as Heat's handling felt... IDK, it just wasn't as fun for me. I will say that the pinball machine-esque effect you get from bouncing off of walls in Rivals wasn't that great but apart from that I felt like it was a pretty good handling model. Is it something many people enjoyed? Do you feel it should return in some form in the next NFS game? Let me know in the comments.
