I am in this “local news” group on Facebook in my hometown. Anytime a story gets posted the comments section is always full of hate.

Racist, radically conservative gun-nuts. Everytime. It makes me so angry. Why are people like this?! I’m a man in my 30’s and I’m just awestruck by how immature and ignorant so many of these people are. I know i could move away or leave the group. The people are still going to be there. They’re going to be wherever i go. The part that irritates me the most is that my children are growing up in a world where, depending what channel you tune into, hate is not only tolerated, but it is encouraged.

I can only shelter and teach so much before they formulate their own opinions about the world around them. I can’t protect them all their lives.

I guess what I need advice for is:

How do I live in this world? How do I face each day with positivity? How do I not regress into the angsty teen I once was and hate the entire world? Right now, that’s how I feel. These hateful people... I wish so much illwill toward them... even though I shouldn’t. I just really really feel defeated and sad about my country, my world, and my children’s futures. It’s so bleak feeling. What do I do?!
