Thinking about setting up a small-time computer repair business
Post Body

Hey guys,

I'm currently looking for a way to make some money on the side. I'm currently in graduate school (mental health counseling) and typical jobs with predetermined schedules are hard to fit around classes and times of day where I'm better able to write my papers.

Currently, I deliver food via the local derivative of the GrubHub model, but the gas, oil changes and depreciating value of my relatively new car is starting to give me anxiety. I met another driver who uses iCracked, a franchise model cell phone screen repair business, and recommended them to me. I was interested in the flexibility, but their startup cost ($1500) seems a bit high and it looks like it takes a while to start to make a return on that initial investment. However, their app automatically links you with customers which looks to be a real plus.

After thinking about it, I thought about doing my own thing and getting a few certifications (A , Net ) and either trying to find a job or offering my services to those interested. I should point out that I live in Boulder, CO which is pretty tech-heavy. I'm worried that I would be drowned out by a million others offering the same thing with the same experience.

How valuable do you think these certifications are? Do you think iCracked would be a better choice for what I'm trying to do? Are there other side-hustles I can do to make money that would potentially be more accessible?

I'm really looking for other money-making prospects, but typical jobs are difficult to make work right now. I would consider the lucrative positions of server or bartender based on their pay, but I have zero experience in either so the possibility of getting a job doing that is pretty low for me.

Thank you for the advice!
