Today is World Vitiligo Day.
Post Body

See those brown ā€œfrecklesā€ on my arms or the couple brown dots on my hands or the lighter brown patches on my thighs? Thatā€™s the remaining pigment. Where did the rest go? My body, through an autoimmune disease or disorder, chooses to attack my skin and destroy the pigment. There are no certified treatments and there is no cure. It doesnā€™t hurt, it just means I need very high SPF anytime Iā€™m outside because the outer layer of our skin has cells that contain the pigment melanin. Melanin protects the skin from the sunā€™s ultraviolet rays. No melanin equals no protection. People always stare and ask if Iā€™ve been burned or if I write on myself. Iā€™ve heard it all. Itā€™s taken me so long to love my body as I am. You all have given me so muchh courage. Thank you for helping me love me. šŸ’œ
