Recovery Step Question
Post Body

Okay so, I see this question asked a few times and I have dug through old posts for the answer and failed to find exactly what I am looking for. The RAW doesn't seem to address this specific point directly, so I would like some outside opinions here on what your group does.

When a fighter suffers a SI, and then recovers (be it 1 Flesh wound or multiple, irrelevant really), does that character then return to max wounds characteristic, or do they return with only 1 (or zero I have seen in some places) wound remaining? I understand that the flesh wounds reduce the overall toughness going forward, which makes them easier to wound in future interactions, which is what plays into my explanation below for our group's ruling/reasoning.

I ask this because my group has been playing it where they recover to full wounds after a recovery, which semi makes sense when you pay 150 credits for some characters (leaders, champions, hangers on) and they are T4, T5, etc. This means, for example, that you have to reduce that invincible Orlock Road Captain that refuses to die all the way to 0 wounds, multiple times usually, in order to effectively kill him. Note that with the overall toughness being reduced each time from the flesh wounds, it does make sense to us, because they are 'taking hits' and pieces of them are getting messed up, so even if you could stand after taking a bullet, you are that much closer to death, if that makes sense.

I bring this up because a new member to our little group brought with him his experience, and they play it where after being reduced to 0 wounds and then recovering, the character always recovers with 0 (or 1) wounds remaining, which effectively nuters the bigger dudes, like Slave Ogryn for example. It makes wounds characteristic kind of moot, because then the big guns mulch everything, and the game as a whole becomes much more... lethal. Like freakishly so. Melee and ranged alike later on are just one shot scenarios at that point, so what is the point of really putting points into wounds beyond 2..

We play with NC18 rules, updated with all the house books that have been released. This is more out of curiousity for how others play the game, as the topic seems opinion driven in the end anyway. Feel free to leave your scenarios or questions. I am aware of how damage works, and the reason Toughness is important, but this change that the new member wants to play with just seems like it robs your big guys of the entire point of bringing them, to soak damage.

Thanks in advance for your input! I will make this a vote as well, so even if you don't feel like responding you can at least give quick input. Anything is appreciated.
