Why do I have to migrate wallets?

Wouldn't the better move be to keep and maintain an official wallet that you know is safe kind of like Apple maintains a walled garden for their software/app store?
Normal users generally don't trust crypto projects at all let alone a migration to one of several not well-known wallets that could turn around and fleece you even if they are endorsed by NEAR.
I don't really get why this is necessary or a good idea.
