Update: I’ve put the update first to act as a warning to others.

After more than a week of attempting to set up my connection with tangerine and a half dozen calls to their tech support. Plus an NBN technician visit. We still had no internet. Whereas after one day of signing up to Launtel we were online. No problems.

in the end I went with the TPLink Archer C7 router. Happy with it. Not high end but good enough.

Bottom line, Tangerine (I have been informed by others) use WAN encoding to lock you to a select number of routers (and encourage you to purchase a router from them). This most likely caused issues with connecting and made setup awful.

We have just moved into a home and have signed up with Tangerine telecom for NBN. My wife has to work from home this week so in a bit of a pickle to get things up and running. I made a mistake of bringing our Sagecom router from when we were with Optus. According to the Tangerine customer support this router is locked to Optus.

I feel a little lost with deciding which router to buy. Ive looked on Tangerines list of compatible routers.

After looking up my connection on NBN Co. website. We have an HFC connection.

Are we really restricted to this list of routers? Can anyone recommend a router that would work with our connection and that has good range and is fast? We have a two story house and so need access all over.
