Here on Part 546 of Things The Media Refuses To Talk About Because They Love The Lakers So Much, I’m gonna spout off about how great Joel Embiid has been playing over approximately this past month because ever since December 3rd of last year, Embiid’s been finally playing like the MVP candidate we saw last year after a slower start to this season.
Embiid’s last 15 games look like this:
30.7 PPG
10.6 RPG
4.4 APG
1.3 SPG
1.2 BPG
63% TS
17 NRTG
11-4 record, currently on a 6 game win streak
Pretty outstanding numbers, right? Well, that’s pretty much how Embiid needs to play in order for Philly to keep winning games because they have been downright awful when Embiid doesn’t play. In the 27 games Embiid has played this year, Philly has a 19-8 record and is winning games by an average of 5.4 points per. However, in the 11 games that Embiid has missed, Philly has a 3-8 record and they are losing games by an average of 8.4 points per. Â
Simmons not playing this year has noticeably hurt Philly. Their ORTG so far is 1.6 points worse than last season and their DRTG is 2.1 points worse than last season, but Embiid over this past month, and really over the whole season, has been trying his damndest to keep Philly afloat in the East.
What chances do you give Embiid at winning MVP if Philly manages to get… lets say, 50 wins this season? Unlikely, yes, but the way he’s playing right now and if he stays pretty healthy, not impossible if he keeps it up.
