In the wake of Rockets-Lakers rematch after "Spit-gate" scandal, let's hit a rewind and see what happened that night from the perspective of a r/nba shitposter.
Post Body

We have seen a lot of fights in the NBA, some of them being pretty nasty. But this one was different, It wasn't as gruesome fight as we have seen in the past but it was definitely disgusting.

Everything started when Brandon Ingram was whistled for a foul on Harden. Ingram was upset and frustrated while Harden asked for an and1, Ingram pushed him during the incident which caused the referee to give him a tech. Ingram got into the face of the referee and Lance came to cool off Ingram and pushed him away from the hot spot. Meanwhile, Rondo and CP3 got into each other and just in a blink of an eye, they were punching each other like it was a boxing match. While other teammates were trying to break the fight between them, Ingram came flying out of nowhere to sucker punch CP3. All three of them were ejected. You can see all this in these videos.

Here is the compilation of the post game interviews of players. LeBron part is at the very begining, then Melo @ 1:36, Harden @ 3:04 , Lonzo @ 5:07 , Lance @ 6:20 and McGee @ 7:12.

While Bron was pretty PC throughout his interview, Carmelo said the whole thing was "bullshit and unacceptable". When asked if he had seen such spitting incident in NBA before he said "you don't even see that in the streets." Harden backed CP3 decision and stated "As a man, only thing you can do in such situations is to stand up for yourself." Lonzo, Lance and McGee weren't asked about the "spitting" thing and said some mild stuff about the "fight".

After the game CP3 told Nichols that the fight between him and Rondo broke out because Rondo spit on his face. Melo and Harden were reportedly upset after the incident. Lakers backed up Rondo and insisted that he did not spit on CP3. Reports about a family member of Rondo made inappropriate comments to CP3's wife came out as well.

The whole r/nba went into frenzy as well. Almost all the links on the Frontpage were in some ways related to this incident even though some interesting games were played on that day. Multiple videos, images were posted claiming that Rondo did spit on him but it wasn't clear from any of the "evidence" posted. Many of us wanted to give a benefit of doubt to Rondo because of CP3's track record. But then u/ImRBJ came in clutch to provide us with a pretty solid video evidence. The NBA suspended Ingram, Rondo and CP3 for 4, 3 and 2 games respectively as a result.

Rondo in one of his comments said:

Everyone wants to believe Chris Paul is a good guy. They don't know he's a horrible teammate. They don't know how he treats people. Look at what he did last year when he was in LA, trying to get to the Clippers locker room.

Followed by some NBA analysts and NBA players echoing similar things. Even-though in this situation CP3 wasn't the main reason for the fight, he still received a lot of hate because of his past karma. Some posts were also submitted which showed the blatant hypocrisy in Rondo's statement. Daryl Morey posts a photo depicting "The pot calling the kettle black" who was subsequently trolled because he basically called CP3 a "bad teammate" in the process.

Following the incident, @itsreal85 came out of the retirement to provide us this insightful commentary that happened during the game. Bleacher Reports also found a conversation between Rondo, Paul and Harden in which we can see them speculating that there might be a second spitter involved.

After 4 months, Feigen asked CP3 about that incident, here is a quote from his twitter

Chris Paul said he had not thought about Thursday being his first game against Rajon Rondo since the spit game until I asked about it. "There's a lot of worse things that have happened since then. I forgot about it. Once the fine and write the check, move on."
