i got fired when i was 24 and started my own company.. I put everything i had into it, reinvesting every cent i made. When i was 27, i literally had zero in the bank. But i was grinding knowing my company had a shot to be something good.

there were lots of times when i was scared. When i was nervous. When i didnt know if we would make it. In our 2nd year we had someone steal 82k out of the84k we had in the bank. I remember being pissed , but only for a couple days.. I realized that we had to get back at. That shit happens and all you can do is keep learning, keep preparing , keep selling and keep grinding.

I would rather be motivated by the fear of failing than not have the opportunity to succeed in my own business

Ive been for this and pushing it for years. It should be a no-brainer for the most elite HS players. What has really changed over the last 3 years is that HS players are becoming social media brands. From their instagram highlights to who the play on fortnight, they are in demand.

Even without the 125k salary to consider, by going pro they can sign shoe deals and other sponsorship deals and make a whole lot more money

If i was one of the shoe companies I would be all over this opportunity. It gets them away from the underbelly of recruiting for colleges and puts it all up front.

THere are some players out there who could make 250k or more just from sponsors

every sports team goes through the same rite of passage. You think that everything that worked for you and made you successful in your business life will work and make you successful with your team.

There are things you can carry over and use, particularly on the business side, if you get involved in that side. But the reality is that no owner is going to make a jumper or get a stop when you need it to win a game.

Its the harsh reality of owning a team. In the business world you can change things using your own skill set. In sports, you are dependent on your players and the officials on the court to do their jobs to their best of their ability in order for things to go your way

if you would have asked me this question 10 years ago, I would have said baseball, but things have changed.

I think the MLS has the best opportunity outside of the NBA. Their challenge is that the value of their franchises are growing faster than their revenues which makes it harder to invest in a franchise

But i think generally they are best positioned behind the NBA

time for me to go. We have a game tonight ! Thanks for all the great questions. And for Mavs fans, download our Mavs app , we just updated it.

And of course, go to Mavs.com and get your tickets and come to a game or watch us on Fox Sports SouthWest

LGM !

I think he will make both of them better. Offensively he rolls and finishes as well as anyone in the league. We wanted him there to give DSJ and LD a target.

Defensively, not on is Deandre a rebounding beast, but he plays quarterback. He is always talking and telling his teammates where to be.

It always amazes me that when you watch an NBA team practice, they are always talking to each other. Even more so than watching a high school team practice. But when they step on the court for a game, they go mute. Its the craziest thing ever.

Deandre is not quiet. he is always out there talking. He makes our team better defensively not just with his skillset but with his leadership

I just want to win. Shit happens. I move on. DJ is a good guy and he knows he should have come to the Mavs the first time :)

And i really try not to be vindictive. Life is too short to carry grudges. I literally can name no more than 3 people in my life that i wouldnt do business with again. And no i wont name them and no they arent in the nba

[not loaded or deleted]

I have investments in more than 100 companies. So I try to have great people working for me or that I have invested in and let them do their jobs.. 95pct of the time it works out great. That gives me a chance to spend more time with my family

When i was getting started and actually running the businesses myself, it was a different story. I had no balance. I went 7 years without a vacation. Broke up with girlfriends when they thought i worked too much. I was on a mission.

It worked for me, but everyone has to make their own decisions on what is important to them

[not loaded or deleted]

lol. letting Nash go was my biggest mistake.

that people will be asking you the same question over and over about what you would tell the teenage you. Dont get annoyed at them !

coming...

When it comes to paying college athletes i think we should really think it through. THe law of unintended consequences can really create issues.

For instance, if you get paid, that makes it a job. If you are a college athlete and you get paid, its your job. Do a poor job and you can be fired.

Whats going to happen when teams start firing Freshmen who werent quite as good as they expected. Or they get hurt their senior year and they take the scholarship and pay check away and leave the player short of graduation ?

Common sense says you can create rules that dont allow this to happen, but $$$ usually overrules common sense.

I would like to see kids get an education and learn life skills. Most players that make it to the NBA dont stay their long and they often find themselves without the skill to do anything else.

All players have to retire at some point and many are not prepared for the rest of their lives. Getting them an education reduces their risks.

That said, whether they get that education via the G League, the NBA helping them or having to stay in college longer than a year, Im for it

[not loaded or deleted]

just watch me at the games . The fact that we gave up a future pick says it all

[not loaded or deleted]

I didnt spend as much time with my dad as I would have liked

[not loaded or deleted]

No. I yelled shoot it, which I do to a lot of guys. with the sixers i was yelling it at anyone not names Reddick

[not loaded or deleted]

absolutely. I think we will get better as the season goes on.. Teams that do the china trip usually take a little longer to get going because of fewer preseason games and with HB and Dirk hurt, we have to get them healthy, but im very optimistic about our year !

[not loaded or deleted]

Social media. Players realize they are brands BEFORE they get to the nba. That has made them a lot more mature and business minded.

[not loaded or deleted]

i think as a nation we should be investing heavily in technology that extracts carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. It should really be our Moon Shot.

[not loaded or deleted]

you dont need to find the perfect job. You paid for college, now find a job where you get paid to learn. it can be anything. Its not a career, its a chance to get paid to be a freshmen in the work world

[not loaded or deleted]

his first all star game, Nash and I told him he had to backpack with a change of clothes because it was a Mavs all star tradition to road trip one night...ill stop there :)

[not loaded or deleted]

there is nothing better than making a championship run and feeling all of North Texas getting Mavs Fever. Top it off with a parade and its a professional accomplishment that is hard to top !

[not loaded or deleted]

it wasnt,. I waited to have kids till after I became wealthy. I dont think i would have been very good at balance.

Everyone has to figure what is best for their families

[not loaded or deleted]

we will let dirk play as long as he wants. He wont ever lose his shot. He will be 75 years old and still be able to hit nothing but net over anyone :)

[not loaded or deleted]

Great players :)

people chewing with their mouths open

charles barkley as a guest shark this season

[not loaded or deleted]

i think about that all the time.

I would still be an entrepreneur. Probably still in tech. But who knows where

[not loaded or deleted]

definitely

[not loaded or deleted]

i taught myself to program. I would sit on a PC for 24 hours straight writing code and think i was only there for about 10 hours.

When im focused and concentrating, time flies

[not loaded or deleted]

i dont think thats the case. THe offenses are ahead right now because of the 3 pointer and the ability of players to shoot it deeper and deeper, opening up the court.

One of the challenges is creating new defenses to deal with it

[not loaded or deleted]

Its a quantum question that depends on which reality you find me in. But fortunately i have found the new Man in the High Castle and bought all the films and an editor. So i may or may not be.. H/T @elihiahdaniel and the Mark Cuban Song

[not loaded or deleted]

I still get the most excited when we play the Spurs

[not loaded or deleted]

quite a few. Personality and work traits are super important to us. One guy can ruin a team's chemistry

[not loaded or deleted]

He was a legend. He helped me a lot when i came in to the NBA. His insights into dealing with NBA leadership was spot on. What he has done for the PNW in sports, and more importantly via philanthropy will live on forever

[not loaded or deleted]

medium rare

[not loaded or deleted]

I never make predictions. But im positive we will be a lot better than last year

[not loaded or deleted]

im open to adding another team, but i think we would be better served moving a couple teams around.. And no i wont say which ones

[not loaded or deleted]

its like managing a stock portfolio. The job of the owner is to balance the short term vs the long term. There are consequences to every personnel decision made. Coaches and GMs want to win now, so the owner typically has to define the balance between the short and long term

Fortunately Donnie Nelson and Rick both understand the challenge and we have been able to agree on the decisions we have made

[not loaded or deleted]

whatever he wants to do he can do

[not loaded or deleted]

i was fired up. it was a rush to come in and meet everyone and realize that i owned a team in my favorite sport.

Probably the best part was getting on the court and getting up shots with them, playing 1 on 1.

[not loaded or deleted]

JET. He always was starting businesses

[not loaded or deleted]

they get along great.

[not loaded or deleted]

I used to do more with LOL, but now more so with Fortnite. Its a lot more social , which i like

[not loaded or deleted]

his sense of humor.

[not loaded or deleted]

. How do you feel about it now?

Re

i just want people who can play. I dont care about their gender

[not loaded or deleted]

everyone has the will to win, only those with the will to prepare do win

and

the one thing in life you can control is your own effort

[not loaded or deleted]

im a fan of esports, but its not an easy business. FortNite came and changed the business equation. There will be other games that do the same. Plus the dynamic of games always updating makes it a true physical, emotional and mental grind for Esport athletes playing some of the more popular games.

It will be interesting to see whether FortNite becomes a team Esport or is tournament driven. What happens with OWL and what best ideas that analog sports like the NBA can steal from esports.

[not loaded or deleted]

i think all of our rooks, Ryan, Jalen, Ray and Kostas all have great futures. Each has a unique skill that plays well in the nba.

Wait will people see Ryan shoot the ball. One of the best

[not loaded or deleted]

hanging with my friends. Driving to different outdoor courts around the city to play pickup. Going to basketball camp at Robert Morris . Playing pickup almost every summer night at the Mt Lebanon courts/

Going to the smithfield news downtown to play pinball.

the list could go on forever

hard and smart work. Tracking what you are doing and so you can improve.

Effectively, practicing till you cant get it wrong

Twisted Root for the buffalo burger or 7-11 for the hot dogs

[not loaded or deleted]

not the ones you think .. We are really trying to integrate biometrics. Beyond the new stuff, PPS is still king. Everything we do is to maximize ours and minimize theirs

[not loaded or deleted]

It was very strange with the lockout. It changed how we dealt with things because we had an older team.

I also, honestly did not expect it to get resolved . I thought we would miss the season

[not loaded or deleted]

was never involved with them. The only cigars i have ever smoked was after our championship.

[not loaded or deleted]

i think its a huge problem and needs to be addressed. There are quite a few things that can be done. But unfortunately its not a focus for anyone right now

[not loaded or deleted]

biometrics used in game

[not loaded or deleted]

it was a blast. Great people . Lots of fun on the set.
