The history of teams that lead the league in 3s attempted in the regular season is not that good.
The 1995 (and 1994) Houston Rockets led by Hakeem Olajuwon were the most recent team to win the championship after leading the league in 3s attempted in the regular season. Since 1995, only once has a team even made the Finals after leading the regular season in 3s attempted, the 2016 Golden State Warriors.
Quite a few of these squads ended up suffering some pretty disappointing playoff results too. Last year's 1 seed Milwaukee Bucks flamed out in the first round, the 2022 Minnesota Timberwolves blew 3 separate 4th quarter leads in their first round loss against Memphis, and of course I think we all know about the failed D'Antoni experiments in both Houston and Phoenix.
Of course, the Celtics aren't built the same as those teams, but they have been launching a ton of 3s especially since Mazzulla became the HC, and we saw their 3 ball fail them in the playoffs against Miami, where they went down in a 0-3 hole shooting a combined 31/106 from deep in those 3 games.
Is this at all indicative of the C's potential playoff outlook this year, and in the seasons after?
