To the sailors of Reddit.. why do sailors never tip waitresses/waiters?

Post Body

I work in downtown San Diego, and of course thereā€™s tons of navy guys (other branches too, but mostly navy) that show up to our restaurant. We get people from Coronado as well, which is just MORE of the navy coming down here. I literally dread (let me emphasize it.. DREAD) whenever a group of navy men/women show up and Iā€™m assigned their table. I do my best to show a smile and be sweet and yet everytime Iā€™m left with $0 as a tip. One time, a sailor thought it was so funny to put a penny on the paper tab and say ā€œyou deserve it, sweetheartā€. I then proceeded to grab the penny and slam it in front of him and grab the tab and leave to charge them. I had another waiter hand them their card back. But a genuine question.. why do you guys never tip us??
