In Alaska, I saw the northern lights while crossing the Arctic Circle, a day after Winter solstice. When it appeared, it was at first a really long green streak which opened up as a wide net stretched across the sky in all directions. Then it started dancing as if there was music playing. In -79°F it was extremely difficult to stand outside for more than 3-4 minutes. The colors kept changing, different colors representing different elements in the atmosphere like green is represented by oxygen. It was the most magical sight I have seen in my entire life.
