After the collapse, a man by the name of Townsend W. Borah, an ambitious military officer from a rural town in Southern Illinois, envisioned a "Grand Republic in the Midwest" and traveled across the Midwest to achieve this Grand Republic, but was only able to convince the legislatures and citizens of Illinois and Indiana. The two Governments have combined and formed the Wabash Republic, and decided upon the capital city of Terre Haute.
Borah was elected as its first President.
