Disclaimer: I believe some background is necessary to help you guys n' gals answer my question.
So to begin I work for my state university as a third shift custodian, and I am obese, 274ish pounds despite how seriously I take my job as well as try at it. I do have Asthma additionally coupled with ADHD.
For many years since graduating high school I've experienced multiple losses and a few tragedies, clinical depression, and still haven't found my true passion in life. That aside I've been an enthusiast of the police and military on an off since childhood. On the brighter side of things I learned that both sides of my family tree have a history of police officers and soldiers. I even love guns but have never been able to afford the time and money for gun safety training.
I like to think I'm very smart, but in earnest I quite like living a simple life with activity and most importantly structure. Regardless I believe that joining the National Guard might just be the thing I need to help guide me towards a fulfilling experience, and give me the structure I crave.
Now I now better than to rush into joining, but I figured asking those of you who are currently in or were in the National Guard is best to do first. I've done some reading, went through the pinned FAQ, etc.
To serve my country and develop actually useful skills sounds great, and Basic Training sounds like the perfect way to reforge myself so to speak.
So, is joining my state's NG sound viable for a person like me seeking purpose?
EDIT: A: Lose Weight. B: Talk to the local recruiter.
