I’m proud of my teenage self
Post Body

Just wanted to share some positive vibes - this happened years ago. When I was 18 and graduated a 2 year college program, my parents ruined my graduation. They were late, were grumpy the whole time, and on our way back in the car, told me “look, you only got second honors instead of first honors, I know you’re not happy with yourself” and I cut them off and said “I am very proud of myself because I worked really hard for this and I did my absolute best given the circumstances I was in (such as an abusive home, a long commute, a heavy course load, mental health issues). So I don’t care what you think, because I am very proud of my academic performance.”

That shut them up for the rest of the car ride. To this day I’m so proud of myself to have stood up to them.
