So, I went into this with an old outline from a few years back. I've always wanted to see it play out better having never been truly passionate about the project. (To be perfectly honest, I wrote the outline while stoned in high school and scrolling through writing prompts) Since I've never been able to finish a project, I figured writing one that I've got planned out would be a good idea.
At first it was great it's only day 8 over here and it's got just over 30,000 words but most of that was written within the first five days. I've really been struggling the past couple of days so I thought a change of scenery might help so I packed my Assassin's Creed messenger bag with water and my bluetooth keyboard and walked up to the park.
When I pulled up that project, I stared at the blank page feeling tortured by the thought of continuing this story right now and opened up a new document. What I wrote was way better than anything I've written the past week, albeit far shorter, and it turned into an entirely new beginning to a story I've been wrestling with all year that I love and have always planned to pick back up at some point.
Now I'm struggling to decide whether I should continue the first project, sticking to the old fashioned NaNoWriMo rules, or work on the one I am actually passionate about, even when I hate it. If I do change stories, would I need to restart my NaNo wordcount? It's my first NaNo so I don't want to just give up on my chosen project, but it's only the beginning of week two so it's not that big of a deal, right? Anybody else having this problem or had it in the past?
