Post Body

Doing the 'wrimo for the second time after an unsuccessful attempt in college. Way more ready and able to commit now.

I searched on here but found no mention of a desktop app I came across called Flowstate.

You set a timer (5, 10, 15mins.... 1 hour), you start writing, if you stop for a few seconds your words start disappearing. Eventually (after about 10-15 seconds) your words will be lost forever. Make it to the end of the timer and your words are saved.

Totally not for everyone but for me it's been a revelation. I overthink things normally, which leads to less words and more frustration. With this app I find i'm able to dig deep to find words and do it quickly.

I did a few practice runs and found I can manage around 500-600 words in 15 min spurts. Day 2 now and i'm on target, having written for a grand total of 1h30 (or thereabouts).

Don't get me wrong, there will be a LOT of rewriting to do (my thesauric ability is at zero during the timer) but the ideas are there... written down. And, it's a nice buzz when you make it to the end of the timer.

again, maybe not for everyone but i thought some on here might find it helpful.

I'm gonna try use it to keep pace without sacrificing my social life/responsibilities, as well as sprinkling in some hours of more thoughtful/free writing to keep the spine of the story intact.

(just realized it's mac/iOS only, sorry windows users - maybe someone knows of an alternative?)
