We're not expecting, but are pretty set on having a child in the near-ish future, and well... we want help from name nerds earlier than later, given that we're picky.
We live in America, on the west coast, but are not white. Child will receive a one-syllable, easy to pronounce Chinese surname (e.g. Chan, Lee, Wong). Child will receive a separate name in Chinese that is unlikely to be part of their legal name. Easy to pronounce is Chinese is not a factor.
Husband: Prefers highly uncommon names - probably sub-1000 on the Social Security name list. Usual comments for names is either "Oooh, I've never heard of that before" or "Meh, I've heard of it." Really liked Aberdeen, but was less impressed by Abilayne for instance. Slight preference for names that start with S- (family tradition).
Wife: Literally an English teacher, so would prefer a name that is spelled phonetically and that has a good, or at least reasonable meaning, in addition to a good connotation. Would prefer somewhat uncommon - sub 100, because she does see 100 students a day, and there is still overlap among her students. Slight preference for using her parents names as honor names, either directly or indirectly through shared meaning. Shared meaning would be nature inspired (mountains, flowers).
Edit: we'll be responding slowly to suggestions. Husband is overwhelmed by how many names are really out there.
