Post Body

This is the second piece of trans lit/writing I've read since my MtF partner came out to me, the first being the Fucking Trans Women zine. FTW was mildly informative and a fun read, but Nevada was insanely insightful- I read it over the weekend and omg I wish I had read it sooner. It's written by a trans woman about the trans experience by way of fictional characters based on real life. It's written in stream of consciousness style and tbh the plot and dialogue is lacking but I really appreciated the deep dive into the psychological machinations of trans women.

There were SO MANY TIMES I shoved the book in my partner's face like 'omg, THIS SOUND EXACTLY LIKE YOU'. Or the characters would reflect on something and I would ask my partner if she ever thought or felt that way or did that thing and the answer was always yes. So I think this book is a pretty good reference on understanding the confusing feelings of being trans. It was also hearbreaking to find out that THIS was what my partner has been going through. She has a hard time talking about her thoughts and feelings (which I learned, through the book, is common- the disassociation trans women tend to force on themselves to protect themselves), so this was really helpful for finding out what she's been going through all these years.

All in all I learned so much from this book. I'd really recommend it to anyone who is far from being a gender scholar (like me) but craves insight into their partner's thoughts and feelings.
