Any systems for crits on resistance checks?

Post Body

New DM, coming from Pathfinder--I'd like to implement some sort of effect of rolling nat 1 or 20 on resistance checks, but I'm unsure how best to do so. My current idea is as follows:

Nat 1 means you auto-fail, and if you would've failed anyway, you add one degree of failure.

Nat 20 means you auto-succeed, and if you've previously failed by more than one degree, you recover up one degree (like from incapacitated to staggered, or staggered to dazed).

But since I'm new, I'm not sure if that's balanced. Is it? If not, is there any popular house rule on the topic? Thanks in advance.
