How are power chords transcribed into real chords?

Post Body
Hey everyone, Recently I've been trying to understand vocal melodies and the chords underneath those melodies. I went to take a look at how Basket Case by Green Day does this when I noticed it contains a Cm and Gm...??? Basket Case is only played with Power chords which means no chords will lean minor or major. So what's the explanation for how a power chord would become a real chord if I was to strum it on my acoustic? Why is it not C major and G major strummed instead??
