My birthday is coming soon and I was thinking about getting a music theory book. I'm interested in composition in general and at some point I'd like to read 20th Century Harmony and Laitz's Complete Musician which as far as I know are the most recommended books about modern and classical music theory.
Do you think that the order in which I decide to read them matters?
I know the basics of music theory; reading, major and minor scales, modes, chords and I have some notion about some concepts such as cadences and counterpoint and stuff you learn at the beginning.
I'm also open to other book suggestions if you have any, but I'm only getting one at a time.
Thanks.
