What harmonically makes Russian music sound Russian?

Post Body
There is an archived post on this subreddit asking this exact same question. However, it seems to have no completely satisfactory answers in it. At the moment I am attempting to write a Russian style piece, and I have yet to find success in getting that stereotypical Russian sound; and I am now at a loss. What instruments would I use for some sort of Russian folk-like ensemble? What sort of modes should I be using? What progressions give that sound in Russian music? Please help, I am so lost.
