I’m really struggling with starting to songwrite, especially since I just got into music at the ripe age of 18 and want to be like all my metal idols (slipknot, jinjer, lamb of god, deftones, in this moment, etc) but I just don’t know where to start. I bought some books on poetry and analyzing poetry to see if it would help, and i’ve been trying to do research but I really don’t know how to do this or where to really start when I don’t even have a band or play an instrument yet. I don’t even know how these creative processes work or how long it takes for a big and extremely talented band like slipknot to write even just a single song. I’m just having a hard time, I want to be able to do this well and improve fast, especially since I feel I’m starting so late and will run out of time.
