Whether it's rapped or sung, the vast majority of popular music is focused on a vocal. Since 1985 there has been a total of ONE instrumental to top the US charts. (Harlem Shake) The role of the music in many cases is simply to support the vocal, which usually makes up at least 50% of what you can hear in terms of prominence.
So if you don't have access to a vocalist, whether that's you or someone else, here's what you do as a hobbyist producer.
You struggle to make anything other than instrumentals, which as we already established is not a popular form of music. And if you're already struggling for traction, as most of us are...well that's not going to help.
Not really asking for suggestions as there is nothing you can do about this apart from the obvious (find/hire vocalists to work with or try and improve your own singing), just pointing it out as I'm not sure it's occurred to everyone, especially more beginner producers who are wondering why no one is following them on spotify. I suspect this is also why the house/ambient genres are so saturated since there are some genre where vocals are far less important.
