Tips on getting a more clear bass sound that gets through the mix?

Post Body
So i record bass through micing an amp but the main problem is that It doesnt have the punch that I want it to. Pretty much the essence of the bass itself is in the mix but theres a certain threshold that if I turn it up enough to hear it the way I want to hear it the bass frequencies get overwhelming and drown the mix when listened to in a car or with speakers. I want more of the texture of the bass without just having the bass element because right now it sort of functions the same as an 808 bass.
