So I loved Rat/Araithia Shokta from War of the Spark and The Coming Storm. For the former, she was one of the major redeeming qualities for the horrid, fanfic-esque writing (not that I could do better). I was recently introduced to the audio drama Voice of All, which significantly makes the writing less terrible with decent voice acting and dramatic and thematic music, although they take some creative license while staying true to the stories. In their six part series of War of the Spark, they tackled the disjointed writing by making it entirely from the perspective of Rat, which added depth to the already most interesting character in the book, and added a bit more intrigue to Teyo, Who was intended to clearly be a blank protagonist for a reader (particularly one new to the series) to project them selves onto. Hey man, I loved her as a character but she very notably doesn’t have a card in the war the spark set. Now this is very frequently due to the fact that they don’t make the story until after making the set, (and mark rosewater has a podcast episode where he explains that), but I’m hopeful that between how interesting she is as a character and her seemingly budding romance with Teyo, that she sparks as a planes Walker maybe in the upcoming book. I do kind of feel like Hekara not recognizing her upon resurrection would have been traumatic enough for her to Spark then, but I guess a lot of planes walkers usually have physical trauma along with emotional trauma when they spark, and everybody has a different rock-bottom. Ugin sparked when he realized that bolas didn’t like him as much as he thought, which... ok... but anyway, I hope that we get her as a planes walker so that there is a future between her and Teyo, and a badass new card. I assume she will get at the very least a legendary creature card, but since she is still gateless, what colors she would be is anyone’s guess and requires more story development. Anyway, would love everybody’s thoughts!
