Balefire Dragon/ Deflecting Swat

I have a question about Balefire Dragon and Deflecting Swat. I attacked someone and dealt them combat damage. They tried casting deflecting swat to redirect the damage that was dealt to their creatures and tried to choose new targets.
Balefire doesn’t target with his ability so Diflecting Swat would just fizzle out correct?
