Question about Mutate

I am messing around with Cromat as a potential commander using him with a bunch of mutate cards and Im pretty sure that my assumption is correct but I wanna make sure incase of weird rulings I assume if I mutate with Cromat and put him on the bottom I wouldn’t be able to use any his abilities cause the cards name on top isn’t Cromat
