Post Body

I've thought about moving to Asia from Canada for a number of years now and would like to understand other people perspectives' to help in my decision making process.

Context: I'm a mid thirties single white male working in finance for a manufacturing company, I hold a CFA charter and a masters from a globally recognized school. I don't speak any other languages, however either location I would intend to spend the first 3-6 months solely studying the respective language. I have visited both countries for just a week previously.

Objective: Study the language and find a job to live there in the country for at least a few years. Settling down, should I find a partner, would also be nice.

Pros for Japan:

  • More global headquarters (it seems as though North Asia is often covered from Toyko)

  • Spoken language is easier to learn (according to others)

  • Larger country to explore

  • Less pollution

Pros for Korea:

  • More affordable

  • Written language is easier to learn (I have done a basic Korean language class)

  • More outgoing culture
