Post Body

Afternoon, Reddit. I'm just trying my best to not get hosed.

For context: I'm moving 1 bedroom, 1 75" TV that will need to be unmounted and boxed, 1 queen mattress and low profile frame, some misc items of kitchen appliances, kitchen items I want to keep, collectibles, and books. Also might assistance boxing a computer tower and monitor. Nothing too incredibly heavy or large that two moving men wouldn't be able to do. And I estimate it'll be about 50-60 boxes and totes combined. (Could be a lot less since I'm not actually moving in July so I'm not too far in my packing process) This company also offered to transport my vehicle. Here's the context of the email:

Good afternoon PressAtoPlay,

Thank you for your interest in MOVING COMPANY! Our movers have been providing YOUR AREA with superior customer service for over 18 years. We provide a well-trained and courteous team, moving truck (up to 26 ft), dollies, furniture pads, shrink wrap, and toolset for assembly/disassembly. You can count on us to never put your items in a truck with other customers' items. We also will not combine your move with other moves. This allows us to deliver and unload your items as quickly as possible, so that you're not left waiting around. The same movers who load the truck in YOUR AREA, will drive to NEW CITY and unload as well. You will have direct contact with the movers throughout the process.

We've worked up a preliminary ballpark estimate of $6,500 for your move. We will provide full door-to-door service with 2 movers, a 15ft box truck, and all necessary moving equipment and supplies. This estimate includes 2 hours of loading time and 2 hours of unloading time. The final price will increase $30 per 1/4 hour ($120/hr) if loading or unloading hours exceed the allotted timeframes.

The additional cost of towing the car will be about $500."

What do you think? Any advice will be appreciated.

I got an estimate from another local company and they wanted $11k. I promptly thanked them for their time and ended that call, lol
