When people ask me what my favourite movie is I usually default to Zodiac. I donât think itâs âthe bestâ but it is my favourite. The acting, the music, the look and feel. I think itâs criminally under appreciated. Although I believe that it was on the same level, I think that it was overshadowed by films like There Will Be Blood and No Country For Old Men which came out the same year.
The acting. A lot of people credit Iron Man as Robert Downey Jr.âs return to Hollywood but I think his turn as Paul Avery really showed that he was back. Also Jake Gyllenhaalâs obsessive descent into madness was incredibly well done.
The music. Donovonâs Hurdy Gurdy Man was an amazing choice in the opening scene. I think it really helped set the tone for the unsolvable mystery of the film.
The feel. This is a broad note but the way that the film looked and how they made the city seem was masterful. I donât want to write an essay on this aspect but I just loved the environment that Fincher and co. created.
How do you feel about it?
