I first watched the movie as a young child, when anything with bright colours and flashing lights would interest me. I watched it again when I was a little older, and remember it being one of the first movies to make me cry. Since then, I've revered it as one of my favourite movies, but have been apprehensive to go back to it, not wanting to discover that my memory of the film was better than it actually is.
I sat down with my girlfriend, a first time viewer, and from the opening scenes I knew that my fears would not be realised. So much is done right, the animation is stunning, and stylistically unique, Brad Bird's visual comedy, and use of camera to comedic effect is amazing and always catches you off guard, and the characters, man. The movie is also paced perfectly, no scene is pointless or wasted, and the climax of the film hits exactly where the filmmakers wanted it to. I actually sobbed in one scene, which set off a domino effect, resulting in my girlfriend spilling her tea everywhere.
If you haven't seen it for a while, or at all for that matter, I suggest you pick up a copy, and give it a watch. You won't be disappointed.
Note: We watched the Signature Edition, I'm not sure what the differences are.
