In Airplane!, the character of Steve McCroskey is at the center of several running gags. As part of the "management style" gag, where he tells everyone who approaches him exactly what to do before they've had a chance to butt in, he has a similarly one-sided phone conversation with his wife. Upon picking up the phone, he says:
"I want the kids in bed by 9:00. I want the dog fed, the yard watered, and the gate locked. And get a note to the milkman. No more cheese!"
I was wondering if there's some cultural reference about the cheese that I'm not getting or if it's just supposed to be context-less nonsense. Is it a joke about milkmen and adultery? Is it a joke about the milk being terrible? I'm curious!
Thanks in advance to those willing to help out. Good luck! We're all counting on you 😁
